The Story
The story behind Water Buffalo Archery began a few years ago, while I was planning for a water buffalo hunt. I was looking for the best broadhead that would be up to the task. I tested many that broke or under-performed. While I did find some to be adequate, they were either difficult to sharpen or very expensive or both.
I decided to make my own.
The task appeared simple, I’d just draw on existing designs for inspiration and use whatever steel I had at hand. Ended up being a research and development (R&D) project that stretched over three years and was anything but simple.
The end result of all of that effort is the single-bevel broadheads you see in our online store. What sets them apart from others of their kind is the edge geometry. The shape of the edge and the bevel are designed to crack and split bone, yet remain razor sharp.
They are made with Caldie steel from Uddeholm that is superior to A2, D2 or S7, hardened and triple tempered to 59-60 Rockwell C. The result is a very robust, almost indestructible broadhead.
At the tip, the edge is a very strong 50 degrees, which tapers down to 35 degrees at the widest point. This change in geometry created a new problem, they were almost impossible to resharpen by hand!
The solution is the patent-pending packaging they come in! The broadhead box is the packaging, storage, and sharpening fixture all in one. It makes sharpening or touching up the edge easy to do, keeping the broadheads performing at their very best every time. They add value to the product by eliminating bulky and expendable packaging.
Effectively, it is replaced instead with a useful tool. You would, otherwise, need to buy separately at an added cost.
Like the dream-hunts they were designed for, these broadheads are difficult, expensive to make, and not for everyone.
For the few select bowhunters that need such a broadhead inventory is minimal and sells out quickly, resulting in your order being put into production soon after it is placed.
